Founder's Compass: Week 9
Hello there and welcome to Founder's Compass, a good way to get oriented around the labyrinthian world of startups.
Tool of the week
Looking to make your apps and websites pop? Do I have the tool for you!
Lottie Files are optimized, light-weight, vectorized animations deployed as JSON's. Best part? A lot of them are free and you can even make your own with a bit of elbow grease.
Video of the week
Time to be a bit depressive about our consumption patterns. Have you noticed how fast stuff breaks now?
Your parents aren't wrong (about this). We are making stuff worse for ourselves. A quick video about Right-to-Repair, Fast Fashion and White Goods.
Startup Idea of the week
Training platform for the elderly ๐ด
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ๐บ:
We're facing a population crises. Lower natality, longer life-span will lead to a predominantly older generation in the next couple of decades. The rate of our technology however will not slow down. We'll actually build and innovate faster if history is our reference mark. So we've got old people + new tech. I think we already know how bad of a combo that is.
๐ง๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐:
On one side, older generations. On the other side, tech companies.
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐ผ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป:
A training platform that guides and teaches the older population on the use of new tech. This platform would be adapted to the needs of their audience: larger fonts, short, descriptive sentences, audio cues and general hand-holding through the process. On the other side, companies would pay for this kind of training as more customers could be interested in their devices now that they know how to use them.
๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐๐:
โ Older population able to benefit from new technologies and keep in touch socially with their close ones.
โ Potentially extend professional careers of those still willing to work by equipping them with the right skills.
โ Dual revenue line: from learners and from the companies intending to teach their potential new customers.
๐๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐:
โ Hard to get right: There are hundreds, if not thousands of hours to put into customer interviews to understand what works for older generations when it comes to learning.
โ Companies adapting faster: If the current demographic trend continues, our tech will actually change itself faster to adapt to the new age of their majority users.
โ More and more complex topics: The tech will only get more complicated in the future. How would you keep up and translate it into easy bites for the elderly?
What would you do differently to get this startup off the ground? Do you think this would work? Let's talk in the comments ๐ค
