Founder's Compass: Week 2
Hello there and welcome to Founder's Compass, a good way to get oriented around the labyrinthian world of startups.
Tool of the week
Engineering is awesome, but have you ever experienced a really well designed app? Nowadays, with all the no-code, low-code and even easier programming frameworks, it's easier to build what your heart desires. But that might not be enough, as Ui/UX becomes the lead priority for founders.
Page Flows showcases how some of the best apps designed their pages in detail, breaking down user onboarding, making a purchase, inviting people for apps like Eventbrite, Bumble or Ikea.
Video of the week
There is this ongoing idea that private equity owns everything, especially two companies: Blackstone and Vanguard. But that is not entirely accurate.
This video from GoodWork explains a lot about the inner workings of the private investment industry.
Startup Idea of the week
Face-analysis for customer interview ๐
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฏ๐น๐ฒ๐บ:
You're interviewing someone for a customer interview (qualitative research). There are a lot of factors you have to handle: Take notes, check the next question, listen to the response. It's almost impossible to interpret all the data accurately, especially if you're a beginner. And sometimes, the truth is really in the micro-expressions that people have intuitively.
๐ง๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ด๐ฒ๐:
Startups, small research teams and young researchers.
๐ฃ๐ฟ๐ผ๐ฝ๐ผ๐๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฆ๐ผ๐น๐๐๐ถ๐ผ๐ป:
An AI-powered face-analyser that reads the small changes in someone's face when they answer. Deployed locally or in the cloud, it would just record the screen during the zoom call and afterwards provide a report. This already exists and is being used extensively in large research organizations, with a very detailed and specialized algorithm. However, the need for accurate research still exists for smaller players in the market. With very little effort and with the new technological advances, this could rival the current options on the market for a fraction of the cost.
๐๐ฒ๐ป๐ฒ๐ณ๐ถ๐๐:
โ Faster and easier to deploy compared to the solutions that are already on the market.
โ Better development options with the new LLM algorithms that could be fed data regarding micro-expressions to improve accuracy.
โ Simple business model: Subscription with a lightweight deploy. Basically a SAAS.
๐๐ต๐ฎ๐น๐น๐ฒ๐ป๐ด๐ฒ๐:
โ GDPR & Data Protection: Interviewee has to give consent to be recorded AND for his facial data to be interpreted and stored.
โ Complexity of results: Clearly this new solution won't be as accurate as the professional grade stuff, but does it have to be?
โ Specialized know-how: This is not easy-to-code and AI devs are now in high-demand. Will for sure be expensive to develop.
